As REM once said, “everybody hurts”. If you’re in business and it’s difficult for you at the moment, you’re not alone! This is the message behind our new podcast, Getting to the Heart of Business

TheOnlineCo.’s Managing Director James Parnwell was interviewed by Katrina Roe at Sydney radio station Hope 103.2 this week, to hear the story behind the podcast.

“During Covid we took a hit like many businesses did,” James explained. It was important to find ways to support businesses coming out the other side of Covid-19, feeling the sting of 2020.

“JobKeeper was keeping our staff employed so essentially we had excess hours – so we started looking for ways to use those hours. We started thinking, we’ve got this expertise in marketing – and marketing’s probably the lifeline for most businesses back out (of Covid).

Getting to the Heart of Business podcast

“We came up with workshops and we did free coaching sessions and some pro bono work – and we were able to help about 300 businesses for free. When JobKeeper came to an end we started looking for something new, a way to help the community and to build our exposure as a business, so we thought, why don’t we do a podcast that talks to people about real business problems. Off the back of Covid, every business owner had suffered, had lost sleep. It had been awful – for some more than others. And so Getting to the Heart of Business says – the business journey has ups and downs, and the downs are real.

“When you hear somebody tell you about a difficulty that they had and how they came out the other side, that says, ‘Hey I understand your pain and I overcame’. For me personally, I find that kind of story immensely helpful.”

Podcast for business owners

James’ #1 goal for the podcast is to encourage business owners. “I’d love through the authenticity and transparency of the stories, for people to think, ‘These are normal people that are ahead of me. Here’s someone who’s successful, who’s in Sydney, who has a dozen or several dozen employees and they’re ahead but they’re normal, so I can take some encouragement and some inspiration from somebody who’s just a bit like me.’”

Hope 103.2’s Katrina agreed. “You’ve had some fascinating conversations. I enjoyed meeting all these people and listening to their inspiring stories,” she said during the interview. “I really enjoyed listening to it myself, congratulations!”
